Lidwala Lodge came from humble beginnings. Reminiscent of the ugly duckling, what was once some shacks surrounded by rubbish and impenetrable weeds on a property that on-one wanted became a beautiful lodge and one the most admired properties in the Kingdom.
Returning from honeymoon in 2005 Kim & Robin Roques bought a piece of land in the Ezulwini valley with the vision of transforming it into an oasis which would become an example to all as a life-style centre of tasteful design and tranquil nature. First came months of gardening and landscaping – rubbish and weed removal, planting grass and indigenous plants, exposing big boulders and the natural stream – gradually the Roki Centre was born. Then came the renovation of some shacks with tyres on the roof into a tastefully designed backpacker lodge with a mix of dorms and private rooms. In June 2006 Lidwala lodge was open for business and within three years it was awarded “best Hostel in Swaziland”.
Lidwala Lodge has gone from strength to strength as Ezulwini has become the sought after “place to be” in Eswatini (Swaziland). The lodge has won numerous accommodation excellence awards and continues to delight travellers, families, students, volunteers and business guests alike. Join us and become part of the story!
