Lidwala Lodge came from humble beginnings. Reminiscent of the ugly duckling, what was once some shacks surrounded by rubbish and impenetrable weeds on a property that on-one wanted became a beautiful lodge and one the most admired properties in the Kingdom.
Returning from honeymoon in 2005 Kim & Robin Roques bought a piece of land in the Ezulwini valley with the vision of transforming it into an oasis which would become an example to all as a life-style centre of tasteful design and tranquil nature. First came months of gardening and landscaping – rubbish and weed removal, planting grass and indigenous plants, exposing big boulders and the natural stream – gradually the Roki Centre was born. Then came the renovation of some shacks with tyres on the roof into a tastefully designed backpacker lodge with a mix of dorms and private rooms. In June 2006 Lidwala lodge was open for business and within three years it was awarded “best Hostel in Swaziland”.
